In this project we learned a lot about how to be as specific as we could about small details while still using the least amount of words as we could. We also reflected a lot about what seemed to be little moments in our life and how these can affect you in many ways after that moment. We learned the basics on how to from a story and what goes into good storytelling that will make people actually care.
We were taught that the ingredients for a great story were ones with the ones that introduced the protagonist and created a character for the audience, the one we went through hardship and struggles with feeling their pain, and ending the story with the protagonist rising not the same person as they started. We tell stories to help insure a better future on the next generation. We need stories that insight us to greatness. Stories help us and inspire us to become a better self than we were yesterday. Writing about my own experience transformed how I saw that moment. I think that instead of just the knowledge that this specific memory existed in my brain, and actually having to think about it and remember specific details. This made me appreciate the moment more, but also gave me a new perspective on it, realizing that in that moment I made friends for a lifetime, just reflecting and thinking about that moment. I believe that narrative writing has helped me grow as a writer in general because it has taught me how my writing style is or could be, it has helped me to reflect on a deeper level on my writing and, overall taught me how to reflect on myself and my experiences.
What stood out to me in this project was how much detail you can put into describing things. We only had one page to write this story and it was very hard to do that while still infusing all the detail and other expectations that Stephen wanted us to include. I think that this factor in this project was the most difficult, and the most interesting. It was fun at the end to look at my first draft and compare it to my final, to see how I had improved and how I could do what I thought was impossible at the start of this project. I think that I would have liked to change the introduction or conclusion in my story. I think it would be cool and interesting to start or end a story from a different perspective, as in an object’s perspective, like an air vent or my shoes or something. That would be a cool twist in a story and I might use it for another assignment.
In this project the most important social lesson I learned was that people like well told stories, ones with a hero that somehow in someway reminds them of themselves, and ones with lots of detail and descriptive words. I also learned that without stories we wouldn’t be the people we are today, we wouldn’t strive for the things we do, and we would hope for the same things. Stories have helped us become who we are and become apart of our lives. I learned as an individual that when you reflect on one moment for about a month you really appreciate it, you find out how special it is to you and you find out what means a lot to you. I think that reflecting on that moment just made me think why I had even choose that moment in the first place, and then that got me thinking even more about how it must be important to me so why was it. This project really made me reflect and think about my life, my story.
